THE REMMEN FOUNDATION
FOUNDATION
The Remmen Foundation (Remmen’s Stiftung von 1986) was founded by Henning Remmen in 1986. Originally, the purpose of the Foundation was to operate a variety of commercial activities centered around hotels.
- In connection with Hotel d’Angleterre’s 250 years anniversary in 2005, the Foundation started its charity work in Denmark.
- At this event the Remmen Foundation donated a total of DKK 6 millions to The Children’s Cancer Foundation, Hospicefonden Denmark and The Danish Brain Injury Association.
- When “Remmen Hotels” was sold in 2007, the focus of the Foundation was exclusively on charity donations in the field of social and cultural activities, as well as medical care and research.
- December 30, 2010 the Remmen Foundation repurchased Hotel d’Angleterre, but will actively also after the purchase continue to support charity work – primarily in Denmark.
- A specific grant for veterans -”Henning Remmens Støttefond for Gardere”- was established, when Henning Remmen turned 80 years old in 2010.
- In connection with Hotel d’Angleterre’s 260 years anniversary in 2015 the Remmen Foundation presented a specific art grant, which each year will be handed over to a young promising Danish artist – the grant is a DKK 100.000 donation.
HISTORY
The founder of the Remmen Foundation was Henning Remmen (1930-2012).
Henning Remmen was originally educated as a pilot – working in both Denmark and the USA. He was employed with SAS for 24 years as a pilot.
- During the 1970s Henning Remmen built the hotel center Scandinavia Holiday-Center in Lemvig, and later Admiral Hotel in an old warehouse at the port of Copenhagen.
- In the years to follow, Hotel Sophie Amalie (Today: Scandic Front), Hotel Kong Frederik and Restaurant Copenhagen Corner were acquired as well.
- The prestigious Hotel d’Angleterre was bought in 1993 and emerged – after an extensive renovation – as the jewel of the “Remmen Hotels”.
- Henning Remmen was the Chairman of the “Remmen Hotels” and together with his wife Else Marie Remmen they both left their mark on the city of Copenhagen – especially during December – with the famous Christmas decoration of Hotel d’Angleterre.
- September 2007 “Remmen Hotels“ was sold to the Icelandic investment company Nordic Partners.
- Hereafter the Remmen Foundation focused exclusively on charity donations in the field of social and cultural activities, as well as medical care and research.
